Depending on the matter we are handling on your behalf, you may have photos or videos related to litigation that need to be prepared for trial or responses to discovery requests. For example, if this is a property line dispute, you may have photos of the property line or the encroaching building. If this is a seller disclosure suit, you likely have numerous photos and videos of the damage. So that we can best represent you in this matter, it is important that you provide us with all of the relevant photos and videos as soon as possible so that we can review the same.
Please note that when sharing photos and videos related to litigation, there is a tendency to only provide a few photos or videos in hopes of not overloading the firm. Although we appreciate this, it is better to provide us with all the relevant photos and videos. There are two primary reasons for this. First, although a photo may not seem relevant or may appear to be redundant, a third-party looking at the photo may see something that you do not see. As such, it is good to have a second set of eyes on the photo or video. Furthermore, if this matter proceeds into discovery, the other side is likely to send discovery requests that will ask for all photos and videos related to the matter. By providing this information to the firm early on, we have the ability to review this information prior to receiving the discovery request and this will make discovery go significantly smoother and easier.
If you have a large number of photos, we can send you a sharefile or Dropbox link to upload photos. When uploading photos, we ask that you please first title them with the following format. The date the photo was taken first, followed by who took the photo, and what the photos is of. For example, if John Smith took a photo of a barn on June 23, 2019, the file name would be “2019-05-23 by John Smith of Barn.” Please note that the date is formatted with the year first, followed by the month, and then the day. This is because using that format will cause the photos to sort chronologically in Windows, Dropbox, Mac, etc.
You are not required to utilize this naming structure when uploading photos; however, going so significantly reduces the time we have to spend organizing your photos. As such, there is a cost savings to you if you assist us with the organization of the photos and videos you submit.
